August, the last month of winter in the Whitsundays welcomes celebrations of the Ocean starting with the fireworks of Reef Festival, a weekend's celebrations of connection with the deep blue, family fun activities and amusement rides on the foreshore.  From 9th to 16th August was Airlie Beach Race Week.  Conditions were perfect, beautiful winter weather of 10-15 knots and 28 degrees. A few days of wind, fortunately or unfortunately it was on  "lay day" the wind has improved for sailing with wind at 20 + knots for the start of Hamilton Island Race Week.  Whales still abound, pods of males chasing females.  Game fishing has begun with Sailfish and Mackerel caught off the back of Hayman Island. Such a wonderful month to holiday in the haven of Airlie Beach, Whitsundays.
